Green Leaf Foundation, Gossaigaon organised a Poultry Input Distribution Programme on 28 September 2026 under its Women-Led SHG Governance and Inclusion Initiative, a one-year pilot project focused on strengthening women's leadership, SHG governance, social inclusion and sustainable livelihood opportunities among rural women in Kokrajhar District, Assam.
As part of the project's practical livelihood and economic empowerment component, 750 Rainbow Rooster chicks were distributed, with 50 chicks provided to each participating unit. The programme covered 14 selected Self-Help Groups along with one women entrepreneur, providing them with an opportunity to initiate or strengthen small-scale poultry-based livelihood activities.
The activity directly supports the project's focus on economic empowerment and sustainable livelihoods. Through practical livelihood opportunities, SHG members can develop experience in poultry management, collective planning and small-scale income generation. The intervention also strengthens institutional convergence between community-based women's groups and technical agricultural institutions.
The poultry initiative is intended to go beyond one-time input distribution. Green Leaf Foundation will continue to encourage participating SHGs to maintain production and financial records, monitor poultry growth and survival, follow vaccination schedules, identify challenges and assess potential income generation.
The programme represents a practical step towards strengthening women-led livelihood activities and enabling SHGs to become more economically resilient and organised community institutions. Green Leaf Foundation will continue documenting the outcomes and learning from the intervention to inform future livelihood programming and potential expansion.
