Due to repeated road accidents occurring along NH-31(C) near Haraputa Mission at Srirampur Chariali, Green Leaf Foundation, Gossaigaon undertook an initiative to address the growing safety concerns affecting school students and local residents.
During the previous year, several accidents were reported near Haraputa Girls ME School, and multiple students from nearby educational institutions sustained injuries in at least three separate road accidents within a span of six months. Considering the seriousness of the situation, Green Leaf Foundation submitted an application to the Gossaigaon Sub-Divisional Administration for installation of a traffic barricade in front of the school. The representation was made following a request from Mr. Alfred Murmu, Head Master of Haraputa Girls ME School.
After Shri Aranyak Saikia, IAS joined as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Gossaigaon, the issue was again raised by Mr. Mizanur Rahman, President of Green Leaf Foundation, during a review meeting held at the Sub-Divisional Office. Following the discussion, the administration took the matter seriously and initiated necessary action.
Subsequently, Mr. Roushinul Alam, ACS, Executive Magistrate of the Gossaigaon Sub-Divisional Administration, visited and inspected the accident-prone site and the nearby school premises. Based on the inspection and public concern, a traffic barricade was officially installed on 13 December 2022 by ASI Arun Ghosh, In-Charge of Gossaigaon Traffic Police.
The installation programme was attended by Mr. Roushinul Alam, ACS, Executive Magistrate, Inspector Amarjyoti Bailung, Officer In-Charge of Gossaigaon Sadar Police Station, Mr. Mizanur Rahman, President of Green Leaf Foundation, Mr. Anower Hussain, Vice President of the Foundation, Mr. Ruhul Amin, Cultural Secretary Mr. Agape Murmu, and several other local residents and stakeholders.
The barricade installation is expected to significantly reduce the speed of vehicles passing through the school zone and improve road safety for students, pedestrians, and local residents.
