On 20 November 2024, Green Leaf Foundation, Gossaigaon organized an awareness and training programme on animal husbandry at the Eidgah Field of Bhomrabil No.1 village. The programme focused on educating rural communities about the scientific care and treatment of domesticated animals and birds during the winter season.
The initiative aimed to address common livestock health issues in rural areas of Lower Assam and promote sustainable animal husbandry practices to improve animal well-being and rural livelihoods.
The programme was organized in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Telipara, Kokrajhar under the leadership of Mr. Mizanur Rahman, President of Green Leaf Foundation.
Dr. Tarani Kanta Kalita, Sub-divisional Veterinary Officer, Gossaigaon, attended the programme as a resource person and shared expert guidance on scientific methods for the winter care and management of cattle, goats, ducks, and poultry. He encouraged women entrepreneurs and self-help groups to adopt modern husbandry practices to achieve economic self-reliance.
Dr. Muzaharul Islam, Subject Matter Specialist in Animal Science from KVK, Kokrajhar, highlighted the importance of scientific training in animal husbandry and emphasized integrated farming models involving both agriculture and livestock for enhancing rural income.
Dr. Pankaj Chakraborty from Gossaigaon State Veterinary Hospital provided awareness on disease prevention, treatment, and healthcare management for domesticated animals and birds.
As part of the programme, essential veterinary medicines were distributed among members of 28 self-help groups from Bhomrabil No.1, Bhomrabil No.2, and Dhawaguri No.3 villages through the support of the Sub-divisional Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Gossaigaon.
The programme witnessed the participation of more than 150 individuals including farmers, self-help group representatives, local dignitaries, and members of the Village Defense Party of Bhomrabil No.1.
